3DS gets its own Brain Training game

Nintendo has revealed that its hugely successful DS series Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training is to return with a new title on 3DS.

The puzzle series was one of the catalysts of DS’ success across the world, appealing to a varying market and, most importantly, to many consumers who had never before owned a handheld console or played a video game.

This new SKU will apparently feature some devilishly hard puzzles that will be referred to as Devil Training in the game.

The original DS title sold over 500,000 copies in its first two months of release in the UK in 2006 and passed the 1m unit sales barrier under 18 months on the market.

In July 2009 the game’s sales passed the 3m unit barrier in the UK, making it the then best selling game ever in the country.

Its success was aided by a celebrity-laden marketing campaign that featured global stars such as Nicole Kidman and Patrick Stewart.

Brain Training 3DS will be released in Japan this summer, with an international release date to follow.
