3DS sales rocket in the US

Nintendo has said that "excitement for the Pokemon brand" is behind an ongoing resurgence in 3DS hardware sales in the US.

Speaking of the North American NPD sales numbers for August, the platform holder has revealed that sales of lower-price 2DS, whose current RRP stands at just $80, were up 500 per cent year-on-year. 3DS hardware sales were up 83 per cent.

Physical and digital first party 3DS software sales climbed 57 per cent, with both Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire re-entering the software charts. Even Wii U software sales enjoyed a bump, rising 30 per cent.

As previously reported, Xbox One was the best-selling console for the second successive month. Overall US hardware spend dropped by six per cent year-on-year. Madden NFL 17 topped the monthly games charts.
