Age Of Conan ‘has a long shelf life’

Eidos is set to continue its support for Age of Conan following a stellar first week for the new IP.

The game came second in the ChartTrack Top 40 in its debut week, only kept from the top spot by GTA IV, and has become the biggest PC game of the year so far.

Last week, developer Funcom announced that the tile had sold a million copies the world over.

We always expected a good performance, with Conan pre-ordering well,” explained Eidos’ senior product manager Paul Benjamin.

We will, of course, be supporting Age of Conan with marketing activity for months. This is only the start of a continued campaign for a product which will have a long, long shelf life.”

Age of Conan was also the most successful MMO launch outside of the World of Warcraft series, and Eidos feels that the game can complement Blizzard’s smash hit franchise.

The size of the World of Warcraft audience is what all MMO’s aspire to achieve but Age of Conan is offering a unique, more mature and visceral experience,” added Benjamin.

We feel it offers an alternative to Warcraft rather than a replacement. Conan is a title that stands up on its own.”
