Amazon to bid for Blockbuster?

Amazon and Best Buy have been listed amongst companies that could bid for bankrupt Blockbuster.

The firm announced late last month that it was going up for auction following a ‘stalking horse’ offer of $290m by an investor group of lendors.

And now the firm has submitted a list of 50 potential suitors to the US Bankruptcy Court in New York ahead of its March 2nd hearing about the bidding process. Other companies listed including Sonic Solutions, the founders of Hollywood Video, NCR and kiosk rental firm Redbox.

Blockbuster expects the sale process to be completed in April.

The firm’s UK boss hopes the sale will end the media speculation over its future.
