Angry Birds firm Rovio cuts over 200 jobs

The Finnish studio behind mobile hit Angry Birds has let 213 staff go in a new round of job losses.

Rovio’s latest batch of cuts began with discussions in August, with original estimates suggesting up to 260 employees could be lost in light of an ongoing restructuring process.

The 213 positions cut across the developer’s global offices is under that prediction, but affected every department – with the exception of the division working on the 2016 Angry Birds cinematic adaptation, based in the US and Canada.

2015 is the second consecutive year in which Rovio has suffered job losses, after as many as 130 staff were cut last October.

The outlet said that it would actively provide career support for those made redundant as a result of the reorganisation”.

Angry Birds 2 was released earlier this year, achieving more than 30 million downloads in its first two weeks.
