Assassin’s Creed 4’s Edward Kenway is Connor’s grandfather

Many may have thought that, as has been the tradition in the Assassin’s Creed series, Assassin’s Creed 4 would take place a few years, if not centuries, after the events of Assassin’s Creed 3. Instead, the new game takes places before it.

Edward Kenway, the protagonist in this year’s game, is in fact the grandfather of Assassin’s Creed 3 hero Connor Kenway and father of Haytham, as revealed by the game’s creative director Jean Guesdon.

ACIVBF tells the story of Edward Kenway, a young British man that left the navy to embrace piracy during the final decade of the Golden Age of Piracy in the West Indies (now known as the Caribbean),” Guesdon said in a Q&A released by Ubisoft.

Edward will be thrown in the middle of the ancient war between Templars and Assassins. He will be trained by them and finally become the first Kenway member of the Assassin Order. He’s the father of Haytham, Connor is therefore Edward’s grandson,” Guesdon added.
