AUSTRALIA: Wii crowned fastest-selling console

The Wii has been crowned the fastest-selling console ever down under after Nintendo Australia revealed that it has beaten PS2 and DS to the half a milion sales milestone.

Gamespot Australia reports that Wii only took 84 weeks to top the 500,000 units mark, while previous record holders PS2 and DS both reached the milestone after 107 weeks on sale, according sales authority GfK Australia.

The report also confirms that the DS has now reached 1.2 million sales in the territory, and has even smashed the previous record for the highest number of consoles sold in one week – 49,000 DS units were shifted in a record-breaking week in early July.
