BBC iPlayer heading to PS3

BBC’s iPlayer service is officially heading to the UK PlayStation Network.

Sony announced the new partnership during its press conference at this year’s Gamescom in Cologne. It will allow PS3 owners to stream selected BBC programming via an official link on the PSN interface.

The BBC is one of many European broadcasters that has pledged its support to PSN, with others including rtve, Antena 3, laSexta and 2DF.

Currently, the only way to view this content is through the console’s internet browser. News of an official version of the iPlayer first arose as far back as April 2008.
