GAMESCOM'09: Titles underway at EA, Gameshasta and Halfbrick Studios

Minis to bring iPhone-style gaming model to PSP

Sony has used its Gamescom press conference to unveil ‘Minis’ for the PSP, which will see studios large and small developing bite sized games for the new iteration of the Sony handheld.

Aping the iPhone distribution model, Minis will allow fledgling developers with limited experience to create games for the PSPgo. At the time of writing it was unclear if Minis will be available for the standard PSP via PSN. Titles created for the Minis service will have a 100MB size limit.

Currently Gameshastra from India and Australia-based Halfbrick Studios are confirmed to be on board for the initiative, as is EA, which will start with release of Sudoku and Tetris ahead of other titles.

Minis will launch on October 1st, with 15 games available at launch. 50 titles are due before the year’s end.

A video shown at the conference in Cologne, Germany, included a number of Minis titles in action.
