PS3 nears 25 milllion worldwide sales

Sony has announced the PS3 is approaching worldwide sales of 25 million unites.

During its Gamescom press conference, the company announced more than 23.7 million PS3 consoles have been sold since its launch, with 10 million sold in Europe alone. More than 60 per cent of PS3 owners are connected to the PlayStation Network.

Worldwide sales for PSP stand at 52.9 million units, with 17 million in Europe, and PS2 sales have reached 138.8 million units, with European sales of 52 million.

The platform holder also revealed figures for PSN, with 27 million registered accounts around the world. More than 11 million of these originated in Europe.

PSN downloads have now exceeded 560 million global downloads, generating more than $280 million in revenue. In particular, Sony’s Home client has been downloaded 7.5 million times, with 3.3 million users in Europe alone.
