Beenox given Spider-Man duties

Developer Beenox is now responsible for Activision’s future Spider-Man games following the release of last year’s Shattered Dimensions.

The Qubec firm became a subsidiary of Activision in 2005. It has worked on other official Spidey titles including Ultimate Spider-Man, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Spider-Man 3 and Spider-Man: Friend or Foe.

Activision named Beenox lead developer for Spider-Man games – licensed by Marvel – in an announcement on the developer’s website.

Shattered Dimensions is Beenox’s latest Spider-Man game which went on sale in September 2010 on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and DS. It has an average Metacritic score of 75 per cent.

Beenox’s creative vision reinvigorated the Spider-Man gaming experience among critics and fans in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions,” said Activisions Studios’ senior VP Patrick Kelly.

We can’t wait to see where this talented studio will take this franchise in the future.”

Beenox studio head Dee Brown added: Being able to map out Spider-Man’s interactive future gives us the creative freedom to really craft the best gaming experience for the fans.”

Beenox has also developed a range of other titles including Guitar Hero: Smash Hits and Monsters vs Aliens which were both released in 2009.

Previous Spidey games were developed Treyarch.
