Bigpoint plots UK expansion

Call of Duty may be the game of the moment – but online giant Bigpoint wants to steal the game’s audience away to high-end titles played via web browsers.

The German firm has told MCV it plans to seriously grow its UK audience next year, using big TV ad campaigns to promote titles that appeal to those usually focused on hi-def console games.

Areas like the UK are very console driven,” said CEO Heiko Hubertz.

We’re working on games specifically for those markets. We’ve hired UK producers from the likes of EA and Ubisoft to help us understand the market.”

These include FPS Ruined and a game based on sci-fi show Battlestar Galactica. Both launch in the next few months.

Bigpoint built its business in Germany over the last five years using a mix of classic TV ads and new online marketing – it will repeat the formula over here.

Said Hubertz: We are already in talks with key TV stations and portals for partnerships to make our games more popular in the UK market.
