Call of Duty 4 topples Gears of War

Following a powerhouse first week in the UK charts, Activision’s Call of Duty 4 has succeeded in beating Gears of War to become the second most played game on Xbox Live – behind only the might of Halo 3.

And developer Infinity Ward has already announced that an update to the online elements of the title is already in the works. It will bring with it some improvements to the match making service, host transfer for in-game sessions and improved server performance for games with large numbers of players.

The Top Ten most played games on Xbox Live as of November 12th, as reported by Microsoft’s Major Nelson, is as follows:

1. Halo 3
2. Call of Duty 4
3. Gears of War
4. Guitar Hero III
5. Madden NFL 08
6. Guitar Hero II
7. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas
8. Guitar Hero III Demo
9. Assassin’s Creed
10. Forza Motorsport 2
