Chavez slams poison PlayStation games

In perhaps the most directed and precise attack on video games to date, Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has not only slated violent games but also accused them of being a capitalist propaganda tool.

Those games they call PlayStation are poison,” the revolutionary democratic socialist told TV show Alo Presidente, as reported by AFP.

Some games teach you to kill. They are sold by capitalist countries to sow violence so they can later sell weapons. They promote the need for cigarettes, drugs and alcohol so they can sell them.

That’s capitalism, the road to hell.”

Late last year the making or selling of violent video games was actually outlawed in the country. The crime is currently punishable by up to five years imprisonment.
