Cherie Blair becomes games exec

In what we’re already comfortably predicting will be the oddest gaming news of the week, Cherie Blair has become a director of an e-sports games company.

The wife of ex-PM Tony, 54, and son Nicky, 23, have joined the board of Magnitude Gaming – a semi-professional outfit that play video games online.

According to The Daily Mail, the company formely played Counter-Strike for cash.

Typically, the middle market paper then goes on to assert the title ‘pits anti-terror officers against gun-toting terrorists in highly realistic, graphic battles’ and that there have been ‘claims that perpetrators of massacres in the US and Germany have been fans of the game’.

According to the latest records at Companies House, the firm has only one other director – company secretary Gabriel Moraes, 22, who set up the firm in 2007.

According to Mr Moraes’s mother Catarina, Nicky Blair and her son are friends and share a London home.

Last night, Mr Moraes issued a statement saying: Magnitude has never been involved with games containing any kind of street violence. We had one game involving soldiers in military combat but it had a rating of 18-plus and was a team game. We stopped involvement with that game some months ago.”
