City expects 2m Sniper sales

Sniper: Ghost Warrior will have sold 2m units by the time its sequel arrives, says City Interactive.

The first-person shooter – released by Mastertronic in the UK – has been a global smash hit across several platforms. It is about to reach 1.5m unit sales, with the PS3 version of the game due in North America on June 28th.

The sequel was shown at E3 last week, and City has invested in the impressive CryEngine 3 to ensure it improves on the original.

We want to make Sniper 2 bigger than Sniper 1, and that game is approaching 1.5m units,” City Interactive’s CEO Marek Tymiński told MCV at E3.

It’s just a matter of time before we break 2m units sold across three platforms. That’s our benchmark and we want to hit the same numbers soon after the release of Sniper 2. We have solid plans to support that.”

City Interactive says it will open new studios and is on the hunt for new talent. It is also looking to partner with independent developers to produce games across all platforms, including free-to-play, social and iPhone.

Tymiński added: We see an opportunity to get a lot of products into our pipeline from all different spectrums, so 360, PS3, PC, handhelds, iOS and online games. The free-to-play model is an area we’d like to have a presence.”
