£250m being invested into Nintendo’s Universal Studios attraction

The planned Nintendo expansion to the Universal Studios theme park in Japan will boast a budget to rival other big-named projects, it has been claimed.

The Telegraph reports that the Japanese press are reporting that some 250m is being invested into the project after details were finalised last week. This is comparable to the amount Universal spent on The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

A sizable chunk of real estate is also being allotted to Mario and friends, most of which is currently being used as an event space.

Completion is expected in time for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Universal Studios Japan is based on Osaka.

Nintendo has created remarkable and imaginative worlds filled with captivating stories and beloved characters. Now, for the first time, those stories and characters will be brought to life in entirely new ways – only at Universal theme parks,” a statement read when the project was announced last year.

The immersive experiences will include major attractions at Universal’s theme parks and will feature Nintendo’s most famous characters and games. More details will be announced in the future, as the Nintendo and Universal creative teams work to create specific concepts.”
