25m worldwide sales for Wii

Nintendo’s Wii console has sold 24.45 million units worldwide since launch, the company has reported in its full year fiscal statement.

18.61 million of these sales came in the 12 months ending March 31, 2008.

Just 5.84 million units were sold in the company’s previous financial year – but the Wii wasn’t launched until November, 2006.

This year’s Wii sales exceeded Nintendo’s expectations.

The company also confirmed that 26 games for the console have become million-sellers. Wii Fit, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Wii Sports, Wii Play, Super Mario Galaxy and Mario Party 8 have all hit the milestone.

Earlier, MCV reported that Nintendo’s FY operating profit had doubled year-on-year –

with net profit up 47.7 per cent
