3DS back on top in Japan

Having very much taken the back seat to PSP in the weeks that have followed its debut in Japan, Nintendo 3DS is finally back at the top of Media Create’s Japanese hardware charts.

The machine sold almost 41k units last week, significantly up on the 25k sold the week before.

PSP was second with sales of 32k. This was followed by PS3 (16k), Wii (6.7k), DSi XL (5.5k), DSi (5.3k), Xbox 360 (2.9k) and PS2 (1.3k).

The catalyst for 3DS’ success was undoubtedly the release of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, though the game itself was pipped to the No.1 spot by Level 5’s fellow new release Little Battle eXperience on PSP.
