UK studio showcases PS3 and Xbox 360 demos

Blitz unveils stereoscopic 3D tech

Blitz Games Studios has secured a world-first with the public unveiling of proprietary technology that shows true stereoscopic 3D games running on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Demonstrating the technique at the 3D Entertainment Summit in Los Angeles, Blitz Game Studio’s co-founder and CTO Andrew Oliver was the only game developer to speak at the event, joining movie industry figures from the likes of Walt Disney Studios, Sony Pictures Imageworks and Dolby Laboratories.

The in-house technology from Blitz allows the current generation of consoles to display the same kind of 3D images made famous by the Imax cinemas, via 3DTV screens. As some TV manufacturers begin to sell television sets capable of displaying stereoscopic images, the games industry could follow the example set by the film industry, which is investing heavily in 3D technology.

Andrew Oliver, CTO of Blitz Games Studios said: "This is an incredibly exciting and huge step forward for videogames. Our BlitzTech technology will prove beyond all doubt that we are already doing what some industry experts have said is impossible on today’s game consoles. Our highly tuned engine is capable of producing real-time interactive graphics that are close to offline rendered CG movie quality."

The 3D Entertainment Summit, which opened today, runs until December 2nd.
