Blur is ‘start of a big franchise’

Nick Davies of UK developer Bizarre Creations has claimed that new racing IP Blur will return with a future instalment.

The game failed to perform in either the UK or US upon its debut in late May, though it has been suggested that it enjoyed a resilient June. Indeed, the game remains a firm fixture in the UK Top 40 and currently sits in 28th place.

Blur the start of a big franchise for Bizarre,” Davies told Gamerzines. [May] was a very busy time for racing games. It came out at the same time as ModNation Racers and Split/Second. It rates incredibly highly and it’s a very popular game, and I think it’s going to be a slow-burner.

I think the multiplayer will stay for a long time and I think people will come back to that time and time again, long after some of the other games have gone back to the second-hand shelf.”

When asked about whether a sequel was in the works, Davies added: That’s the plan, yeah. I don’t work on the Blur team specifically so I can’t speak for them, but it’s always been the plan to make the number one racing franchise. That’s as much as I can say.”
