Buyers of John Lewis £112 Wii U bundle miss out

The internet was last week set alight for a few brief moment as John Lewis offered an unbelievable discount on Wii U hardware.

On offer was a Wii U Basic console along with a copy of New Super Mario Bros U and 8GB SD card for just 112 – less than half of the retailer’s list price.

However, the retailer has now told Eurogamer that none of the customers who managed to secure the bundle actually received the goods.

"Unfortunately an error resulted in this line incorrectly going live on our website and its availability as ‘in stock’," a spokesperson said. "As a result, we could not fulfil any orders.

"In most instances, the funds had not been taken from customer accounts, but a small number of accounts were unfortunately charged. All customers have been contacted via email, explaining that the item is not in stock, and if they have already been charged for the purchase, a full refund will be given.

"John Lewis apologises to all those affected by this error and any inconvenience caused."
