New iPad in overheating error message worry

It’s not an Apple launch without a decent faulty tech story – and this one sounds like a big one.

Users have taken to Apple forums to complain of what seems to be an excessive amount of heat emanating from one corner – the lower left hand – of the new tablet Mac.

It’s even being reported that the problem occurs when the device is not in active use. Others have said that its general operating temperature makes it too warm to comfortably hold.

However, more worryingly some users have received an error message reading "iPad needs to cool down before you can use it" when under warm conditions, such as direct sunlight.

Apple’s own guidelines say that the device operates correctly in temperatures up to only 32 degrees celsius, providing a problem for consumers in warmer reaches.
