Nintendo is no longer the majority owner of the Seattle Mariners

Major League Baseball team the Seattle Mariners is no longer owned by Nintendo.

The platform holder had held a majority stake in the outfit for almost a quarter of a century, but announced in April plans to offload its interest. GameSpot reports that the agreements have now been finalised, leaving Nintendo with just a ten per cent share of the team.

Current Mariners CEO and former Nintendo of America chairman Howard Lincoln has also stepped down, with majority owner John Stanton stepping up to the role.

"I want [to] express my deepest appreciation to Howard Lincoln for his 17 years of leadership and a smooth transition in the last four months," Stanton said. "The future of Mariners baseball is bright. The right management team is in place and focused on winning. It is an honour to lead this franchise, and I am ready to get started and excited for the challenges ahead."

Nintendo has said that the impact of the sale will be reflected in its next quarterly numbers.
