Old 360s no longer sold by GAME

Both GAME and Gamestation have stopped selling pre-owned versions of older Xbox 360 consoles, it has confirmed.

The move affects Xbox 360 Core and Arcade models as well as older devices that don’t offer HDMI support.

Consumers will still be able to trade these devices in in-store.

The move has primarily been implemented due to lack of consumer demand for the notoriously unreliable machines – a fact noted in an internal Gamestation memo obtained by Eurogamer.

"As of Saturday 3rd September we will not be selling pre-owned Xbox 360 Cores, Arcades and 20GB non HDMIs,” it says.

This is due to the high failure rate of the console and the difficulty and cost of repairing them. We will continue to trade these consoles in but they will need to be sent back to the DC as a regular faulty return where they will exit the business."

In 2007 Microsoft admitted that the Xbox 360 was suffering from an unacceptably” high right of console failures. As a result it extended its hardware warranty to three years for problems relating to the infamous ‘Red Ring of Death’.

The current version of the machine has eradicated these issues.
