PlayStation Move shipments hit 15 million

PS3 ships 70 million units

Sony’s PlayStation 3 console has shipped more than 70 million units since its launch in 2006, the company has announced.

As well as hitting the impressive landmark on November 4th, the firm said it had also shipped 15 million PlayStation Move controllers as of November 11th.

Microsoft recently revealed that it had sold over 70 million Xbox 360 consoles, although both this and the PS3 are dwarfed by sales of the Wii, which has sold around 100 million units.

Despite the impressive life-time sales, all the console manufacturers are now gearing up for the next-generation of systems.

Nintendo’s Wii U is set to launch on November 18th in the US and November 30th in Europe, whilst Microsoft and Sony have yet to officially announce the existence of a new Xbox or a PS4.

According to a recent report however, although Sony has yet to confirm it is building a new console, developers have begun receiving PlayStation 4 dev kits.
