UK CHARTS: Fallout smashes Oblivion sales

Bethesda’s Fallout 3 has blown away the sales impact of its direct predecessor, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, with the Xbox 360 version selling 57 per cent more copies than the medieval adventure in its first week.

Fallout 3 shot straight to the top of Gfk ChartTrack All Formats Top 40 yesterday, dislodging former champ Fable II from the top.

Furthermore, the Xbox 360 version grabbed the lion’s share of UK sales, accounting for 55 per cent of all unit sales. The PS3 captured 28 per cent and the PC 17 per cent.

Fallout 3 also managed to outsell the combined sales of both Fallout and Fallout 2 and spin-off titles Fallout Tactics and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, doing so in just two days.
