US: 360 doubles PS3 GTA IV sales in May

GTA IV sold almost double the number of units on Xbox 360 as it did on PS3 in the US in May.

According to data from sales monitor NPD, the Rockstar title shifted 871,300 copies on Microsoft’s system, whilst selling 442,900 on Sony’s console.

Nintendo’s Mario Kart and Wii Fit also both outsold the PS3 version of GTA IV in the US in May. Mario Kart sold 787,400 copies in the month, followed by Wii Fit on 687,700.

The top ten sellers in the month were:

1. GTA IV (360) – Rockstar: 871,300 units

2. Mario Kart Wii (Wii) – Nintendo: 787,400

3. Wii Fit (Wii) – Nintendo: 687,700

4. GTA IV (PS3) – Rockstar: 442,900

5. Wii Play (Wii) – Nintendo: 294,600

6. Super Smash Brawl (Wii) – Nintendo: 171,100

7. Iron Man (PS2) – Sega: 130,600

8. Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock (Wii) – Activision: 116,800

9. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers Of Darkness (DS) – Nintendo: 107,000

10. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers Of Time (DS) – Nintendo: 102,000
