Global software sales hit two million across retail and digital

Vita success as 1.2 million units sell worldwide

Sony has sold more than 1.2 million units of its next generation handheld, the company has announced, in a strong retail performance that barks back at the system’s many pessimists.

PS Vita launched across Japan in December, with a European and US launch carried out in February 22nd.

Global software sales for the three-month period have surpassed 2 million units at both retail and on PlayStation Network.

Retail resource MCV claims the system has effectively outpaced the 3DS.

“PS Vita was designed to deliver the ultimate portable entertainment experience, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the reaction we’re seeing from consumers and the pace at which PS Vita is selling,” said SCE group president Andrew House.

He said the company is “working closely with third party developers and publishers to ensure the best games and franchises possible will be available on PS Vita”.
