Xbox 360 shifts 17.7m worldwide

Microsoft has revealed a new set of figures following a bumper festive period, according to

. As well as reaching the 17.7m mark in terms of worldwide console sales, the platform holder confirmed that it has shifted 4.3m units in the last three months.

On top of the hardware figures, Microsoft revealed sales data for leading titles Halo 3 and Mass Effect. Microsoft’s Bungie-developed shooter Halo 3 has sold a staggering 8.1 million copies by the end of the year, while Mass Effect shifted 1.6 million.

Xbox 360 also boasts a record-high software attach rate of 6.9, according to NPD.

Microsoft also addressed problems with its Live service, stating that the problems stemmed from a massive increase” in new users.

While the service was not completely offline at any given time, we are disappointed in our performance,” said Xbox Live General Manager Marc Whitten.
