Yakuza: Kiwami flies to the top of the Japanese charts like a dragon

The remake of the first game in Sega’s Yakuza franchise – Like A Dragon in Japan – debuts at No.1 in the region’s Top Ten, according to data from Famitsu.

Yakuza: Kiwami sold 174,665 units across PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. The PS4 SKU took the lead with 100,647 units sold in its launch week.

In addition to being a remake of the first title in the series, the game also comes with a demo for the upcoming Yakuza 6, which is set to launch at the end of the year in the region.

Kiwami was one of a few new releases this week.

The 3DS SKU of 2014’s Koei Tecmo/Nintendo collaboration title Hyrule Warriors – Legends – launched last week, and debuted in third place. That title sold 54,856 units in its first week on sale. It charts ahead of fellow new arrival, Just Cause 3, which charted in fourth place.

Meanwhile, Resident Evil Origins Collection sold 19,727 units and charted at No.5. That title is a compilation featuring last year’s HD re-release of Capcom’s Resident Evil Remake as well as the newly-launched HD remaster of Resident Evil 0.

That title received a boxed release in Japan, and was the eighth best-selling title of the week with 13,618 units sold. Interestingly, it’s the PS3 SKU that charts here – perhaps an indication that PS4 owners were drawn to the Origins Collection package.
