A name and price for the Xbox One X and backwards compatibility with the original Xbox were far from the only announcements at Microsoft’s E3 press conference last night.
Crackdown 3, which was originally announced way back in 2014, finally has a release date for both Xbox One and PC – November 7th. The Sumo Digital developed title got a lot less stage time than some of the third party games, but the Terry Crews trailer got plenty of laughs.
Four player co-op will obviously be big for the game, but the environmental destructibility that characterised its previous showings seemed largely absent – as did any mention of the contribution of cloud computing.
Meanwhile, Turn 10’s Forza Motorsport 7 has a release date of October 3rd, again for both Xbox and PC. The game will run natively at 4K and at 60fps, and support HDR. The racer’s Porsche partnership was bigged up with the on-stage world premier of the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2RS.
As had been previously hinted, there will also be an Xbox release for PC sensation PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, which is currently rocking some 3m+ owners on Steam early access. It will boast enhancements for Xbox One X owners.
The survival shooter will be an Xbox One console exclusive, although the initial later this year” release date has since been shunted back to 2018 by developer Bluehole.
There was also much rejoicing on Twitter for Cuphead which, after a long period of being MIA, finally has a release date of September 29th on Xbox and PC. Rare’s Sea of Thieves got an airing, too, along with a release window of early 2018.
Minecraft, meanwhile, is to be the recipient of a huge update adding support for 4K visuals, as well as a simplification to the server joining process which will ease the path for players to hop into one another’s worlds. Cross platform play is also being introduced across PC, Xbox, Switch, VR and mobile – although sadly not PlayStation.
Stage time was also given to prequel Life is Strange: Before the Storm, Ori sequel Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Origins, BioWare’s new Destiny-like Anthem, indie title Tacoma, adventure outing Ashen, MMO Black Desert, online fighter The Darwin Project and stylish indie title The Last Night.
