Day one digital Fallout 4 sales outpaced physical

Bethesda has offered another glimpse into the secretive world of digital console game sales.

Speaking to Game Informer, Bethesda producer Todd Howard has revealed that RPG hit Fallout 4 sold more digitally on day one that it did physically.

To put that into perspective, while the publisher never announced any official sales figures for the game, it did say that it launched with 12m copies available across physical and digital, although this would be an unusual way in which to present digital retail data.

We do know that the game sold over half a million physical units in the UK in its first week, becoming the third biggest UK launch of 2015.

Howard also touched upon the changes at Bethesda that have seen it up the number of titles it seeks to develop simultaneously.

We’ve always kind of overlapped stuff, but I guess we’re doing more now than we ever have,” he added. [The projects] aren’t all the same scale, but they are longer term. We’re also doing DLC, and Fallout Shelter, creation kit, and mod stuff, updating the game – we’ve got a lot going on.

We got to the point with the studio in Montreal where we can start expanding. We thought that ‘Hey, these are things we talked about doing, so why not, let’s start.’”
