E3 2010: Donkey Kong for Wii

Consumer games site IGN is currently running with one of the best E3 rumours doing the rounds – that Retro Studios, famed for its work on Nintendo’s recent 3D Metroid outings, is hard at work on a new Donkey Kong title.

We’ve not known what Retro has been working on since the release of Wii title Metroid Prime Trilogy.

The nature of the Donkey Kong title is currently unknown, though the famed games mascot has never been afraid to turn his hand to new genres.

Having originally shot to fame in Shigeru Miyamoto’s cult arcade classic, DK has since gone on to star in a number of Nintendo’s most loved titles including Mario Kart, Smash Bros and Mario Party.

Kong made a splash on SNES by starring in Rare’s classic platform trilogy Donkey Kong Country. He then went on to star in the criminally under-rated Donkey Konga on GameCube and bongo-controlled platform spin-off Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat.

Don’t forget too his Game Boy Advance title Donkey Kong: King of Swing and less successful Wii title Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast.
