EA names free games for SimCity owners

Owners of SimCity on PC have been told which games they will be able to claim for free as an apology for the strategy game’s rocky launch.

The selection is impressive and includes recent release Dead Space 3 as well as triple–A hits Mass Effect 3, Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Battlefield 3. The others on the list are Bejeweled 3, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, Plants vs Zombies and, ironically, SimCity 4 Deluxe.

The offer will be rolled out on a per-territory basis and will kick off in North America by no later than 5pm (local time) on the evening of Wednesday March 20th. European gamers should get access by 5pm this Thursday (March 21st).

To claim their game SimCity owners must have registered their copy by March 26th. Origin’s Featured Today” pop-up will then offer instructions once the deal is live.

All redemptions must be completed by March 30th.

Of course, EA could have offered gamers a five-star break in the Maldives and free bran flakes for life and it would make not one bit of difference to those both amongst consumers and in the press who have already made their mind up” on the firm. But to most consumers this gesture will seem wholly proportionate for what has been a frustrating period.
