EA Sports hires new pro golfer

EA Sports has signed a new golfer as its ambassador for upcoming simulation game PGA Tour 12.

Welsh pro Rhys Davies will wear the EA logo on his shirt during all golf competitions this year and help promote the new Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii game.

The news comes following an announcement that Tiger Woods has been dropped from the PGA Tour cover. Despite this, his name still features in the game’s full title – Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 – and he will appear on the limited edition PS3 game’s box.

I’m delighted to be appearing in the new game and especially proud to be the first European Tour golf brand ambassador for EA Sports,” said Rhys Davies.

It’s every golfer’s dream to be immortalised in a video game and I can’t wait to compete against my virtual character.”

EA’s senior PR manager Shaun White added: We’re extremely excited to be partnering with Rhys Davies. We will work with Rhys on several initiatives during the season and give gamers an insight into the life of a tour professional.”

25-year-old Davies has two victories on the European Challenge Tour in 2009 and runner-up finishes on the Asian Tour in 2008 and 2009.

Tiger Woods admitted marriage infidelity in December 2009. In October last year Woods lost his world No.1 golf status to England’s Lee Westwood.

PGA Tour 12 goes on sale in the UK on April 1st. It adds a range of new courses and focuses on the Augusta National golf club and the Masters Tournament.
