NPD: New high for Final Fantasy

First it was Modern Warfare 2 echoing its UK achievements in the US market, and now Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIII is getting in on the act.

Crediting its ground-breaking multiformat release, NPD has stated that Final Fantasy XIII has enjoyed the best ever launch for a game in the RPG series.

The game claimed the exact same record in the UK last month.

The game sold a total of 1.32m units in the US in March, with PS3 accounting for 828k and the Xbox 360 493.9k – thwarting previous predictions that the 360 SKU could outperform its PlayStation rival.

In doing so it betters PS2 exclusive Final Fantasy XII, which shifted 896k units back in November 2006. FFXIII improved on this performance by some 48 per cent.
