Top 100 Women in Games: Michelle Turner

Michelle Turner left Bournemouth University in 2008 with a degree in Public Relations and started her career in the European head office of The Walt Disney Company handling projects such as High School Musical and Pirates of the Caribbean.

She moved to the North-West and worked in various PR and marketing roles before becoming the Global Marketing Manager for Ripstone Publishing in 2012.

Ripstone publishes digital content – namely indie titles – and Turner was its first employee. She handles all the marketing for all of the company’s games.

Success is relative and whilst the highlights of working at a company like Disney are more obvious, achieving small successes for our indie developers can feel a lot more exciting,” she tells MCV.

I’m lucky that we work with great UK based teams like newly formed Dreadbit Games in Guildford and VooFoo Studios in Birmingham as well as foreign developers like Zoink! in Sweden and Golden Ruby Games in New York.

Discoverability for indie games is a big issue and everything I can do to help that feels like a major accomplishment.

"This year, I’m planning to focus more of my time on consumer events, not just in the UK but in Europe, the US and emerging markets.
