Xbox 360 rules successful September

Xbox 360 was triumphant as video game sales surged in the UK last month, according to GfK Chart-Track.

Taking in games sold between Sunday, August 29th and Saturday, October 2nd, the UK games market saw sales rise 23.5 per cent in value and seven per cent in units compared to the same period a year before.

And 48.7 per cent of all the money made on games last month came from Microsoft’s console, with FIFA 11 and Halo: Reach the big sales drivers.

Xbox 360 continues to be the best format for the best line-up of amazing games, and September has been a standout month, with the likes of Halo: Reach, FIFA 11, Dead Rising 2 and F1 2010 among a long list of fabulous games that launched during the month,” said Stephen McGill, Microsoft UK’s director of entertainment and marketing.

And there’s so many more amazing games still to arrive in the coming weeks – Fable III, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, Call of Duty and Need for Speed, to name but a few of the games out this year.

And of course, Kinect is launching on Wednesday, November 10th, along with all the amazing new gaming and entertainment experiences that will be bring.

It was a triumphant month for EA, too. The publishing giant accounted for a quarter of all games sold last month, boosted by the release of FIFA 11.

SEPTEMBER SELLERS

Core games performed strongly last month, with FIFA, Halo, F1, Dead Rising and Mafia controlling the Top Five. The only games aimed at a more casual audience in the Top Ten this week include Sports Champions in ninth spot and Just Dance at No.10.
