‘Expect 600m connected devices by 2014’

By 2014 there will be over 600m connected devices able to play browser games in the US and Western Europe, says Nick Parker.

These includePCs, tablets, TVs, Blu-ray players and set-top boxes. That’s on top of 225m smart phones, according to the Parker Consulting analyst, who was speaking at the 2011 London Games Conference.

Parker also said that by the end of 2011, Europe should be similar to USA in terms of the number of households with a broadband connection.

He expects games streaming services to grow rapidly. And with this rise of internet-based devices, Parker predicts Sony’s PS4 will have a digital focus with an add-on peripheral that can play traditional discs.

Parker also predicts that digital media will equal boxed products by the end of 2012 in terms of sales. This includes MMOs, social, casual, mobile games, DLC and streaming services.

Furthermore, he reckons by 2015 there’ll be more Android Apps than iOS Apps on the market, but that these probably won’t achieve as much revenue as the App Store.
