Finally, EA backs virtual reality with Star Wars ‘experience’

Electronic Arts is the second major third-party publisher to develop a Virtual Reality project.

Despite attracting support from a number of high profile developers, including Crytek, Rebellion and Creative Assembly, big third-party publishers have been reluctant to jump into the VR sector.

Take-Two told MCV that it was waiting to see how the market develops, while EA’s Peter Moore told MCV last year that it was understandable that publishers were being cautious.

Ubisoft was the only big firm to promise VR support at E3 last year, unveiling its new project Eagle Flight.

But now EA has said it will release a VR project, an ‘experience’ based around Star Wars: Battlefront and developed by the company’s DICE studio. It will be exclusive to PlayStation’s VR headset, but little else is known at this time, including whether this will actually be a game at all.
