Firm demands destruction of Sonys Cell processor

A company named Parallel Processing claims that Sony’s much touted PS3 processor, the Cell, infringes one of its existing patents, and is demanding the impounding and destruction” of Sony’s entire chip stockpile.

Next-Gen reports that a lawsuit filed on July 26th claims that a patent called Synchronized Parallel Processing with Shared Memory”, which was filed in 1991, describes a computational process very similar to Sony’s Cell.

Parallel Processing says that Sony’s alleged actions have caused irreparable harm and monetary damage” to the company, and as a result it is seeking damages, reimbursement of legal fees, interest and the impounding and destruction of all Defendant’s products that infringe the patent.”
