First official PS4 media remote due ‘before Christmas’ in UK

The first officially-licensed remote control for the PS4 has been released in the US, with a UK launch expected before the end of the year.

PDP’s Universal Media Remote was first announced back in July, with a US date originally set for October 31st. UK pricing and release details were left unconfirmed.

Despite Amazon US still listing an October 27th date for the product, GameStop is already offering the device for sale.

The controller, which is said to work with Sony’s PS4 console out of the box, can be used by players to power the machine on and off, as well as navigating through menus and controlling Blu-ray and DVD playback.

It’s compatible with a number of PS4 apps, including Netflix, PlayStation Video, Twitch and YouTube.

All of the normal PS4 DualShock 4 controller buttons are present, including the iconic shape face buttons.

Two AAA batteries provide life of at least six months under normal usage.

Speaking to MCV, a PDP representative said that the accessories specialist was anticipating a UK launch for the peripheral before Christmas of this year.

UK pricing remains unconfirmed, although, with a US RRP of $30, a 20 to 30 price tag could be expected.

The representative added that PDP has ‘high expectations’ for the popularity of the remote among gamers.
