Former OMGPOP boss walks from Zynga

Dan Porter, the general manager of Zynga’s New York studio, has quit the company.

Porter was the former CEO of Draw Something developer OMGPOP and joined Zynga as part of its $180m acquisition of the company in 2012. OMGPOP went on to become Zynga New York, and is currently developing Draw Something 2.

The departure was described as a mutual decision”. Zynga’s VP of mobile development Sean Uberoi will take charge of the studio going forwards.

Draw Something was for a short time the big sensation in smartphone gaming circles and a planned TV quiz show spin-off is still in the works.

However, it may have shone brightly but that came at the price of a short life-span. Shortly after the game was acquired by Zynga the fad passed and players began jumping ship.

Its flop was so severe, in fact, that many hold it responsible for Zynga recent financial struggles.
