Free Battlefield pulls in 250,000 players

Over 250,000 players have signed up to Battlefield Play4Free since the game was announced earlier this month.

EA Romania and DICE are testing servers for the upcoming free-to-play as the beta launches. More than 850 beta keys have been handed out to players, with more to follow over the coming days.

There are over 250,000 applicants so recent signups will have to wait,” said the head of EA’s business unit for Battlefield Play4Free Ben Cousins on Twitter.

850 keys just went out. Depending on stability, more will be released soon. Keys will be handed out by VIP entry first, then in order of signup.”

Battlefield Play4Free was confirmed by EA this month. The PC shooter follows the multiplayer template set by existing title Bad Company 2 and allows up to 32 gamers to take part in online multiplayer.
