Microsoft hints at Halo remake

Halo: Combat Evolved could be getting a next-gen makeover courtesy of Microsoft’s in-house developer 343 Industries.

The game is rumoured to run on the Halo: Reach engine and is expected to be released next year, before the next full Halo sequel arrives in 2012, CVG reports.

Microsoft UK’s director of entertainment and devices Stephen McGill told GamesMaster magazine: I imagine it’s a good idea”.

I think some people want to go back to older games and see them revisited and I think a lot of developers want to see that too.”

The Xbox original Halo: Combat Evolved was released in November 2001 and over 34m Halo games have been sold worldwide since. Halo is also available to download on Xbox Live in the ‘Xbox Original’ section.

In September Halo: Reach topped the charts, selling 300,000 copies in the UK on day one. It also achieved global sales of $200m within its first 24 hours on sale.
