Funcom ditches The Secret World subscription charges

As of today, a subscription is no longer required to play EA and Funcom’s The Secret World.

There are no complicated rules or restrictions, no complex matrixes telling you what you can and cannot access,” the official blurb reads. Pay Once, Play Forever – it’s that simple.”

Those who have previously purchased the title are automatically entitled to free membership of a new scheme that offers a host of perks including fixed IAP discounts and limited use perks.

New players who wish to buy membership can do so for $10/€10 per month

With this recent change there is no reason not to join and take part in The Secret World,” game director Joel Bylos stated.

Most players end up having a ton of fun once they delve into the myths and legends of The Secret World, and we believe the game has the potential to be even more successful without the subscription entry barrier. It is an ambitious and very exciting move for us.”
