Popular toys and video game entrepreneur Fergus McGovern passed away at the weekend.
He was just 50.
McGovern is best known for co-founding Probe, a games developer that had worked on a number of major video game franchises including FIFA, Alien, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Mortal Kombat.
He sold the business to Acclaim in 1995, before re-launching it in 2010.
His other roles in games included as founder of Hotgen, a business devoted to creating plug and play licensed game devices. He was also a Board member of toy specialist Jakks Pacific, associate director at Crystal Palace football club and executive producer on the film ‘From Bedrooms to Billions,’ a documentary on the birth of the video games industry in Britain.
He also won a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Golden Joysticks.
When he wasn’t changing the world of video games, McGovern was an active fundraiser and was granted Freedom of the City of London for his work with charities.
He leaves behind his wife Deanna and his three children, Abby, Ryan and Ella.
