Gennaro Castaldo leaves HMV for BPI

He has outlasted almost everyone in the games industry, but HMV is sadly saying goodbye to PR mastermind Gennaro Castaldo.

Anyone working across the UK entertainment industries for any amount of time will have encountered Castaldo at some point throughout his 28 years – yes, 28 years – heading up HMV’s PR efforts.

A hugely popular man, Castaldo even broke down traditional barriers by becoming a recognisable face on our TV sets, such was the number of interview spots and even guest spots that he has appeared on throughout the years.

He leaves HMV having successfully helped guide the ailing retailer through the most challenging time in its history. He’s heading over to the BPI to become its director of communications.

I’m really looking forward to this exciting new challenge – working with Geoff and his team, Tony Wadsworth and, of course, the BPI members to communicate exciting developments taking place in our industry during this dynamic time of change,” Castaldo.

”I can’t leave HMV without saying what a privilege it’s been for me to have worked there and with so many wonderful colleagues and associated past and present, who I will always think of with great affection. I will look to bring the same passion and commitment to my new role and build on the strong foundation of media engagement that is already in place.”

Gennaro – MCV salutes you and wishes you all the very best. You will be missed.
