Global PSP unit sales hit 50 million

Sony has announced that it’s sold 50 million units of its PlayStation Portable handheld.

The figure includes cumulative numbers of all the PSP models released to-date, and the platform holder has also announced that total PSP software unit sales have reached 200 million.

As revealed by MCV yesterday, Sony has promised to reinvigorate the PSP during 2009, with new software and extended marketing activity.

The PSP was first launched in December 2004 in Japan, with the PSP 2000 (slim and light) arriving in September 2007 and the PSP 3000 hitting shelves in October last year
